Teamwork means different things to men and women. Understanding this is the key to making things work for both sexes. I will give you some examples of how teamwork differs between the two based on brain chemistry. This will help you let go of the stress you might feel when you think you have to do things yourself.

You have noticed that you get often get frustrated when someone does something differently from you. If this person is of the opposite sex, it is likely because of their differences in brain chemistry from yours. These differences make everyone’s skills better in various ways.

Teamwork for men means that each person on the team has individual talents and capabilities. Together, the team makes up a whole. The team, as far as men go, do not switch positions from one to another.

Each person has specific duties that they are counted on doing to the best of their abilities. Think about a caveman carrying a baby on his back. Could he focus on hunting for food? Not really. Men are wired to do one thing at a time and do that one thing well with intense focus.

Women differ in their view of teamwork. For them, women on a team are all equally responsible for all duties and tasks. Women will work together on a collaborative level. For them, certain tasks are not set for just one person to handle. Every person on the woman’s team will do what needs to be done.

Teamwork flows with individual members doing whatever the job calls for when it is necessary. Now, picture the cavewoman. She is all alone. She has to tend to the children and hunt and gather food for the whole village. This would be untenable for her. She needs a whole team of women to keep her from becoming overwhelmed.

When you understand these differences, you will be able to work more harmoniously. In any situation, you will understand how to make your differences benefit the whole team. This is the case whether working with a group of people or in a one-on-one relationship.

By understanding these differences men and woman may become more aware of their own specific traits, so they might be able to communicate how they work best and what will benefit them personally and the group as a whole. Not to mention, you may find it helps you be more compassionate toward other’s needs and their specific ways to shine.
